Carrie Reichardt

Specialising in craft and art as protest

Carrie is a self-titled craftivist who works from a mosaic-covered HQ, The Treatment Rooms in west London. Her work blurs the boundaries between craft and activism, using the craft techniques of mural, mosaic and screen-printing to create intricate, highly politicised works of art.

My name is Rabia shahzadi I am a visual artist lives and works in London. Text is the main object of my visuals because the text is considered the most personal language of any human being, through this unreadable text, I usually describe my personal biography and the truths which one cannot express in a loud voice or which are not acceptable for the society. My work is an amalgamation of text typography and historical figures of the traditional miniature painting of the sub-continent.
The combination of text, pop colours and historical figures is a visual appearance of my thoughts about the significance of the history of sub-continent miniature art in past and today, besides this, I want to leave the representation of colouration and compositions of the visuals open for viewers that one may symbolize its many perspectives.

As a mixed media Artist the process of mono printing, painting and photo manipulation sustains Anum Hashmi’s studio practice. Mimicking the world she documents, on it’s ever changing journey as buildings, nature and people and their communities evolve and re-purpose. Collections of photographs, sketches and maps, take life in a diverse series of mixed media pieces, engaging in a meditative cycle of layering manipulating , rephotographing and then transforming into a digital mixed medium onto fabrics or unconventional materials. They’re layered to merge within its own time capsule in an attempt to capture nature, time, and changing spaces.
In the pursuit to beautify the mundane facades of everyday life, she addresses socio economical issues that displaces people along with their communities. As a british Pakistani, her fascination lies with the idea of preserving cultural traditions and practices from heritage ,migration and faith narratives, in particular the Indian sub continent from the eye of a second generation immigrant. Anum seeks to evoke and promote a sense of unity and ethnic enrichment when people of different faith and cultures interact and intertwine based on their social positions in society, whilst still giving a voice to the under represented and relay their stories.

Learning in my thirties that I'm autistic has resulted in a journey of reflection, re-evaluation and self love. I paint those who identify as women and non-binary in order to improve compassion towards my internal & external self, relearning a lifetime of neurotypical conditioning and the effects of capitalism on the way I view myself, and to see bodies as the work of art they are.

I create mixed media pieces, primarily using acrylics, and simple materials such as gel wax pens and oil pastels.
