Part of the ACE Y-Our Story project
Y-Our Story: Visual Stories of Acton Arts Council funded year-long celebration of community storytelling and creative collaboration continues with Out of Hours Sharing Stories featuring the Y-Our Story Poets Amir Darwish, Akuba, Anthony Smith and Jordan Campbell, plus an Open Mic spot.
Co-created by Ealing Libraries & Community Centres and ARTification, since we launched in May 2025, the project continues to deliver literary, illustrative and creative activities. We are pleased to be transforming Acton Library into a vibrant space for performance, exhibition, and shared expression. Join us and be a part of Acton’s story, told by its people.
Our poets:
+ Amir Darwish is a British Syrian poet & writer of Kurdish origin who lives in London. Born in Aleppo in 1979, he came to Britain as an asylum seeker in 2003.Amir’s work has been published and anthologised worldwide. His poetry was translated into Arabic,Bengali, Estonian, Finnish, Italian, Spanish, and Turkish,amongst other languages. He was part of several radio programmes, including BBC 4, BBC World Service and Refugee Radio. He was invited and attended literary and poetry festivals worldwide, including Finland, India, Italy, Turkey, Morocco, and Estonia. He is currently a poetry editor at the other side of hope literary magazine. Amir’s two collections of poetry are Dear Refugee(Smokestack, 2019) & Don’t Forget the Couscous(Smokestack, 2015).

+ Anthony Smith : retired EAL/ESOL teacher, has recently published 'Stopping Places' and 'Remembering' (Literary Waves, available on Amazon) collections of poetry and travel writing, hosts occasional open mics (poetry and spoken word) at the W3 Gallery; London explorer.
+ Jordan Campbell: Storytelling for change, connection, and culture. Jordan is a Storyteller, Facilitator, and Programme Designer. He is based in London and is working UK-wide and internationally. 🌐 www.dutchpotstories.org
